Del Rey Day Brings Residents to a Picnic in the Park

The event sponsored by the Del Rey Neighborhood Council featured the Del Rey Community Jazz Band.

About 250 people celebrated the eighth annual Del Rey Day at Glen Alla Park in Del Rey on Sunday as part of an ongoing outreach effort by the Del Rey Neighborhood Council.

Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl, whose 11th District includes Del Rey, attended the family-friendly event that featured 100 picnic blankets for the first families to arrive and the sweet sounds of the Del Rey Community Jazz Band.

There also were desserts on hand, including smores, provided by the Del Rey Neighborhood Council.

Del Rey Neighborhood Council President Eric DeSobe said the outreach effort helps people know they're in Del Rey, which is one of the lesser known neighborhoods in Los Angeles compared to Venice, Playa del Rey or even Mar Vista.

Neighbors were able to share their community concerns in the relaxed environment and the council added more than 60 people to their mailing list, DeSobe said.
