Fire at Marina Farms Market

The blaze flared up just before midnight and was extinguished within half an hour. The store may be closed for months.

A fire last night burned out the market at 5454 S. Centinela Avenue in Del Rey. The market specializes in fresh produce as well as meat and dairy products.

Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) spokesperson Matt Spence said the department received the alarm at 11:56 pm yesterday and had “achieved knockdown” at 12:26 am. No injuries were reported.

The LAFD sent six engines and two rescue units to respond to the fire and received aid from the Culver City and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, each of which sent two engines to help fight the blaze.

Spence said the cause of the fire is under active investigation and that no dollar loss estimate was available yet.

Local resident Frank Sanford told Patch, “Someone over there just told me that it may be closed for about six months, due to ‘all the usual insurance company haggling and delays’.”

The store’s phone line appears to be disconnected. Repeated attempts to call the store did not go through.
