Grand Opening: Del Rey Farmers Market

The Del Rey farmers market kicked off today in Glen Alla Park.

Residents picked out fresh fruits and vegetables on Friday at the grand opening of the Del Rey farmers market.

About 10 vendors displayed their produce, prepared food and products at Glen Alla Park. And by next week, the vendors are expected to double.

Although the farmers market was originally scheduled to begin on Aug. 3, Helen Lee, the owner of several farmers markets, decided to hold a soft opening on Friday.

“I want to give all the vendors a chance to make money, and I’ll invite more farmers as demand grows,” Lee said.

Lee, who grew up in Los Feliz, currently runs farmers markets in Los Feliz, Newbury Park and Thousand Oaks. And now, Del Rey.

The Del Rey farmers market is located on the strip of grass between the playground and Glencoe Avenue.

“This is my first time at any farmers market,” said Vin Low, a Del Rey resident and retired City of Los Angeles employee. “I walk by the park all the time, and growing plants is my hobby.”

Low, with the help of her son, sells succulents that she grows as a hobby.

The farmers market will run on Fridays from 2 to 7 p.m., and in addition to food, it will also feature live music.
