Two Loyola Student Films Chosen For KCET Film Festival

Two Loyola Marymount University filmmakers were selected for KCET’s annual “Fine Cut” Student Film Festival.

The five-week series that will air on Thursday will highlight the best documentaries, dramas, comedies, shorts and animation created by students. Professors from eight film schools in Southern California submitted videos to KCET for final selection. 

"We're excited to offer another year of exceptional films from talented Southern California student filmmakers," said Bohdan Zachary, vice president of Broadcasting, Syndication and Program Development for KCET, who serves as executive producer of the annual series. "A KCET mainstay for many years, the Fine Cut series contiues to deliver groundbreaking stories that showcase the human spirit in triumph and adversity."

Recent Loyola alumnus Bryce Hirschberg and sophmore Isidor Pollak were chosen for the Final Cut festival, which kicks off Thursday on KCET. 

Hirschberg’s film “Counterfiters” has already won praise from LMU and was selected as the best experimental film in the California Film Awards. It will be shown on KCET on Feb. 7 at 9 p.m.

Pollak’s “Dreams: A Trayvon Martin Story” was shot on the RED Epic and 5dMKii and combines narrative as well as actual audio from the event. It will air Jan. 24 at 9 p.m. 

Other participating student filmmakers hail from the American Film Institute, California Institute of the Arts, Chapman University, Columbia College Hollywood, Idyllwild Arts Academy, University of California Los Angeles and the University of Southern California.
