Southern California Gas Co. warned its customers Monday about a scam in which the culprits tell victims they can get credits on their utility bills if they provide information such as a Social Security number. According to the gas company, scammers have visited customers in person, used social media sites and even sent text messages to victims claiming that President Barack Obama is offering a program of bill credits or direct payment of bills. Officials of Southern California Gas Co. said workers for the utility always carry proper identification when visiting customers, and they do not randomly call or text customers asking for Social Security numbers or other personal information. Customers should verify a person's employment before …

Killer Cafe opened its doors today to the public.
If Johnny Cash and Jimmy Buffett argued over what type of cafe to open, they would likely settle on Killer Cafe. Killer Cafe is the newest addition to the Killer Shrimp family, a local favorite that relocated to Admiralty Way from Washington Boulevard last year. The interior resembles the cabin of a boat, with long, arched, dark-wood beams across a bowed white ceiling. A 30-foot counter that faces the kitchen lines the restaurant, opposite of nine spacious black and red booths that match the 1950’s-style bar stools. “We felt like the area was underserved,” said co-owner Brett Doherty. “And we wanted to have a place for the community to get together for breakfast.” He and Kevin Michaels, the other co-owner, grew up in the area and …

The Digital Hollywood conference took place this week at the Marina del Rey Ritz-Carlton.
Keith Knight’s high school job in the mid 1980‘s was impersonating Michael Jackson at birthday parties. He performed as the “King of Pop” for a high school variety show, and eventually was charging $75 an hour for his performances, “which is more than I make now,” he said. Knight is now an award-winning cartoonist whose work has been featured in the Washington Post, the San Francisco Chronicle and the Boston Herald, among others. But a few months ago, he decided he wanted to revisit his moonwalking days and create a comic strip based on his MJ experience. “People always said, ‘when are you going to tell that story,’” he said. “It never felt like I could take the time out to do it because I always had to draw my cartoons to make money.” He…
