What's Up: Panga Boat Bust, Singer Miguel Arrested, Poncho Sanchez Concert

Five things to start off your Friday in Marina del Rey.

Here are five things to start off your Friday and kick off the weekend in Marina del Rey:

  1. A boat with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department Marina del Rey station on Thursday helped recover a large amount of "contraband" thrown from a panga boat that was apparently trying to smuggle the contents of the boat from Mexico into California. Read all about it here.
  2. Grammy Award winning R&B singer Miguel was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol early Thursday morning in Marina del Rey. We have all the details here
  3. Poncho Sanchez, another Grammy Award winning artist, will play a free concert on Saturday in Burton Chace Park. The concert begins at 7 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
  4. Heads up if you are traveling south on the 405 freeway this weekend. The entire freeway will be shut down in both directions in Westminster for 20 hours beginning at 9 p.m. Saturday with lanes reopening by 5 p.m. Sunday. Officials are warning motorists to stay away from the area unless absolutely necessary.
  5. Weekend weather is shaping up to be typical Southern California weather with foggy or cloudy skies in the morning and sun in the afternoon. Weekend highs will stick in the lower 70s for coastal areas with lows in the low 60s.
