What's Up: Parking Meters, LAPD Impounding, Crisis Volunteers Sought

Five items to start off your Tuesday in Marina del Rey.

Here are five things to start off your Tuesday in Marina del Rey:

  1. Starting next year, Los Angeles and other California cities will be legally unable to cite drivers for parking at broken parking meters under a bill signed into law Monday. The bill ensures that cities like Los Angeles – The City Council just rescinded a policy of having cars parked at broken meters cited – would not be able to cite drivers in the future.
  2. A judge Monday struck down the LAPD's policy liberalizing procedures for impounding cars of unlicensed drivers. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Terry Green said Special Order 7 did more than just provide guidelines to officers, but instead was "a real game changer'' that conflicted with what the Legislature intended when it enacted provisions within the state Vehicle Code to reduce accidents caused by people driving without a valid license.
  3. Volunteers – especially bilingual residents who are fluent in Spanish, Korean, Armenian, Farsi, Chinese or Tagalog – are being sought to join Mayor Eric Garcetti's crisis response team, which aids individuals who have just undergone a traumatic experience, his office announced Monday.
  4. A Marina del Rey entrepreneur will appear on an episode of ABC's "Shark Tank" on Monday, Aug. 26, according to a post on TVWorld.com.
  5. Tuesday's weather will be much like the rest of the week with cloudy skies in the morning and increasing sun in the afternoon. Tuesday's high in Marina del Rey will reach 71 degrees. The overnight low will dip to 63 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
