Free Alzheimer's E-learning Course Available to Marina del Rey Family Caregivers

The local Home Instead Senior Care® office is offering a unique approach to assist South Bay-area family caregivers in managing the challenges of helping loved ones with Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia.

The announcement of the free e-learning training program was prompted by experts’ predictions that the incurable disease, which eventually robs seniors of their memories and independence, will ultimately afflict nearly half of the senior population over the age of 85.

Now there is help in the form of a new personal approach to caring for older adults with Alzheimer’s disease at home, where 60-70 percent live.

Called the Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias CARE: Changing Aging Through Research and EducationSM Training Program (CARE), the course is available now via online e-learning modules at www.HelpforAlzheimersFamilies.com.

The Home Instead Senior Care network assembled the top experts in Alzheimer’s disease to develop the interactive educational CARE approach, called “Capturing Life’s Journey.” It includes four classes: Alzheimer’s Disease or Other Dementias Overview; Capturing Life’s Journey; Techniques to Manage Behaviors, and Activities to Encourage Engagement.

In addition to receiving basic information about Alzheimer’s disease, family caregivers will gain valuable insight for providing better care for a loved one with these conditions. At the end of the course, participants will be equipped with several techniques to help improve the quality of life for both the caregiver and the afflicted loved one.

Each class can be completed within 5-15 minutes and no pre-registration is required. A Class Checklist PDF can be downloaded at the end of each session.

Home Instead Senior Care points out that the course is for informational purposes only, and is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice, which should be sought out for any medical questions.

For more information about the free online family caregiver training program and other resources, visit www.HelpforAlzheimersFamilies.com or call Home Instead Senior Care at 310-542-0563.
