World-renowned spine surgeon Hooman M. Melamed, M.D., who was recently inducted into the Leading Physicians of the World and was appointed by Dr. Oz to serve on his “Share Care” board of experts, has been named director of scoliosis at Marina del Rey Hospital. The board-certified back and neck specialist, noted for his minimally invasive surgical approach, will be in charge of improving standards of care for those with scoliosis, a condition that affects approximately 9 million Americans. In addition, he will provide education and in-service instruction for the facility’s medical staff as well as its nurses and ancillary personnel.
“I’m delighted and honored to have been appointed to this prestigious position,” said Melamed, who has been featured in media nationwide including "Dr. Oz," "The Doctors," "Steve Harvey Show," and various local newscasts and newspapers. “Marina del Rey Hospital is a respected institution known for its state-of-the-art approach to care and I’m proud to serve in this capacity and help those in the community plagued with scoliosis.”
In addition to treating scoliosis, Melamed uses his minimally invasive surgical approach to repair herniated discs, complex cervical Lumbar spine disorders, and cervical and lumbar stenosis. He is a member of the Scoliosis Research Society, Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and Adjunct Assistant Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Touro University Medical Center. He also is director and founder of the nonprofit, Back To You, which extends free care to those who do not have the financial means for treatment.
