Free Beach Shuttle Service Returning to Marina Del Rey

Starting May 25, the Beach Shuttle will travel between Venice Pier and Playa Vista with stops in Marina del Rey.

The Beach Shuttle is back.

Starting May 25, Memorial Day weekend, the free public transportation service will resume ferrying locals from Venice Pier to Playa Vista and back with stops in Marina Del Rey.

Through Sept. 30, the shuttle will run 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays and holidays.

The shuttle will make its round trip every 30 minutes, carrying passengers to a number of sites including Fisherman’s Village, the Waterside Shopping Center, Mother's Beach and the Venice Beach Pier.

Shuttle stops are located near seven Marina del Rey WaterBus boarding locations. There will be a pause in service between 3:15 p.m. to 4:15 p.m.

During the upcoming Thursday evening classical concerts at Burton Chace Park (July 12 and 26 and Aug. 9 and 23), the shuttle will operate from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., providing roundtrip service to the park.

The shuttle will also provide service to the Abbot Kinney Festival on Sunday, Sept. 30, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Later this year, the Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors will debut new buses, powered by compressed natural gas. The new buses will be Americans with Disabilities accessible and will include space for bicycles.

“Thanks to a partnership with Playa Vista, those who want to head to the beach or visit Marina del Rey can enjoy the ride without worries of high gasoline prices, parking fees or traffic headaches,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe in a statement.

I'm so glad you added that comment, and that I read the comments (since the headline says it hasRead More opened). I was all excited to walk up and try it tonight, which would have been a bummer. Looking forward to trying it.
