Playa Vista Farmers' Market

Why: Come out to the Playa Vista Farmers' Market for a special community day that features a live cooking demonstration, a scavenger hunt for children and a guided nature walk of the Ballona Wetlands. The market, as usual, will be showcasing the freshest fruits, vegetables and flowers direct from the best local farmers California has to offer as well as other traditional market fare. This is a Certified Farmers' Market sponsored by Sprouts of Promise Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit focused on the education of healthy eating habits.  Visit www.playavistaFM.com for more information.

Where: Mar Vista Gardens Recreation Center

Why: The Del Rey Neighborhood Council is sponsoring the 2nd annual Del Rey Cup soccer tournament and the 6th annual Del Rey Handball Tournament at the Mar Vista Gardens housing project in Del Rey. There will be back-to-school gift bags for 100 students handed out, too.

Artists' Reception for the 'Gaze' Exhibit

When: 6 p.m. - 9 p.m.

Where: 4047 Lincoln Blvd, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292.

Freshwater Marsh Interpretive Tour

When: Saturday, 10 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Where: 5510 Lincoln Blvd, Playa Vista, CA

Why: Join the Friends of Ballona Wetlands for a free guided tour of the freshwater marsh, birds, and native plants that make up this hidden urban oasis in Marina del Rey.

You will see a wonderful variety of birds, learn about native plants, and see how the freshwater system works.

Park on the south side of Jefferson Blvd. along side the Marsh, just west of Lincoln. Meet at the Freshwater Marsh sign. Please call (310) 306-5994 for directions.

Why: Listen to the reggae sounds of LA Cat at this free outdoor concert in Marina del Rey's Fisherman's Village. Parking is validated with purchase.

2011 Abbot Kinney Festival

When: Sunday, 10 a.m.

Where: , Abbot Kinney Boulevard, Venice.

Why: The 2011 Abbot Kinney Festival will feature lots of fun activities for everyone. One of Southern California’s most popular community events—the annual Abbot Kinney Festival now in its 27th year—will be held on Abbot Kinney Boulevard, from Venice Boulevard to Main Street. Enjoy local artisans, live music, and family entertainment.

Why: Check out the No Static Trio + at this bar that was recently named one of the best bars in the country by Esquire magazine.
