LAPD to Hold Fishing Day in Marina del Rey for Inner City Youth

30 kids will have the opportunity to fish the waters off Marina del Rey.

The Los Angeles Police Department along with A Chance for Children Foundation and the Marina Del Rey Anglers will host 30 inner-city children Wednesday on a fishing trip out of Marina del Rey.

According to organizers, the trip will offer up the world of fishing to kids who would normally never have the chance to fish.

"The four hour program is designed to help less fortunate kids simply go fishing," organizers said in a statement. "Many kids would love to go fishing, or enjoy other outdoor activities, but their circumstances may not allow them to...
Introducing these well-deserving kids to fishing will be a wonderful experience for them and provide them a memory they will cherish forever."

The Betty-O fishing vessel will run the excursion. Organizers said kids will also participate in a dock cleanup and also learn about the ecosystem in the Santa Monica Bay.

"During this special fishing excursion, Cadets will experience the anglers’ excitement from the tug of a fishing line or delight in the passing of a pod of dolphins," organizers said. "They will also be educated about our beaches and our ocean and will experience firsthand what an incredible natural resource our ocean is and how it serves as a special sanctuary."

Wednesday's fishing excursion is partially funded by government and non-government agency grants including a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Each student will also be provided free tackle courtesy of the Marina del Rey Anglers.
