LAX Looking for Creative Ways to Open New International Terminal

The airport is holding a contest to find creative ideas for the terminal's official grand opening ceremony in September.

Los Angeles International Airport officials announced Tuesday that they have launched a contest seeking creative or unusual ideas from the public for the grand opening of the new Tom Bradley International Terminal.

The ceremony, which will take place in September, will officially open phase one of the $1.5-billion project and includes opening the south concourse boarding gates and the grand entrance hall for flight operations, officials said.

Los Angeles World Airports spokeswoman Katherine Alvarado said the airport hopes the public can come up with ideas beyond a simple ribbon cutting for the occasion.

"Ideas must be cost-effective, creative and 'out-of-the-box' from the standard ribbon-cutting ceremony using large scissors," Alvarado said in a news release.

Those interested in submitting their ideas can do so by emailing laxpr@lawa.org by Sunday, Aug. 11.

The winning idea will be announced through the airport's social media sites and will be used at the grand opening ceremony in September. The winner will also receive an LAX gift basket, Alvarado said.
