Magnitude 4.8 Santa Barbara Earthquake Felt in Marina Del Rey

The quake was large enough to rattle some residents in Marina Del Rey.

The magnitude 4.8 earthquake that struck off the coast of Santa Barbara Wednesday morning was apparently strong enough to rattle some residents in Marina Del Rey and Playa Del Rey.

According to data compiled by the U.S. Geological Survey, at least 10 Marina Del Rey residents and two Play Del Rey residents reported feeling the earthquake Wednesday morning.

Most residents who reported feeling the quake only reported feeling "weak" shaking.

The moderate earthquake was centered in the ocean off Santa Barbara rattled and struck at 7:38 a.m., the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The extremely shallow quake struck in the Santa Barbara Channel 12 miles west of Santa Barbara with a magnitude of 4.6, which packs the punch to cause moderate damage.
