Marina del Rey Pit Stop Scheduled for Bike Week

Metro is sponsoring a week-long series of activities, free Metro rides and prizes to celebrate Bike Week L.A. running through Friday.

The event aims to encourage Los Angeles residents to help reduce traffic and air pollution by using their bikes.

Much of the focus is on Thursday, Bike to Work Day, when bicyclists are encouraged to ditch their cars and bike to their workplace. Those who pledge to bike to work earn a chance to win prizes, including a commuter cycling package from REI valued at $750. Pledges can be made online at www.metro.net/bikeweek.

Schools, businesses and advocacy groups are hosting bicycle pit stops throughout Los Angeles, offering free refreshments, giveaways and information for bicycle commuting.

The National MS Society is sponsoring a pit stop in Marina del Rey as part of its Bike MS: Coastal Challenge 2013 fundraiser.
