Several local chapters of the LA County Bicycle Coalition, including the Culver City Bicycle Coalition, took part Saturday in a ride around the Westside to take advantage of Carmageddon weekend.

Cycling enthusiasts turned out early Saturday morning to participate in a ‘Carmageddon’ bike ride organized by the ocal chapters of the LA County Bicycle Coalition - including the Culver City Bicycle Coalition.

Taking advantage of the Carmageddon II weekend, articipants met for a healthy breakfast at the Culver City Expo Line station at 8:30 a.m. before heading out on a 22-mile ride around the Westside, that included stops in Marina del Rey, Venice, Santa Monica and Westwood. The rides were led by trained instructors and ride marshals with plenty of stops along the way through bike friendly neighborhoods.

Those not up for the longer ride had the opportunity to take shorter rides including a ride around Culver City (8 miles); a ride around Marina del Rey and Venice (8 miles); a Santa Monica ride (8 miles); a Westwood to Santa Monica ride (11 miles) or a Westwood to Culver City ride (11 miles).

CCBC member Darren Kessner told Patch following the event, “We had over 100 riders  – 114 according to one count!”
