These are the Breaks - LA Book Launch
Award-winning hip hop poet and playwright IDRIS GOODWIN shares selections from These Are The Breaks (Write Bloody Publishing), his debut collection of "gnomic essays and prose" that cruise the intersection of music, politics, race and absurdity. Special featured performances by HBO Def PoetAMALIA ORTIZ, fellow Write Bloody-authors DERRICK BROWN and MINDY NETTIFEE.
IDRIS GOODWIN is an NEA award-winning playwright, break beat poet, essayist, indie rapper and teacher, who's been featured on HBO Def Poetry and The Discovery Channel’s Planet Green. His latest album, Break Beat Poems (SGE Records) and debut collection of prose, These Are The Breaks (Write Bloody Publishing), earned praise from The New York Times and National Public Radio.
AMALIA ORTIZ, Tejana actor/writer/activist, has performed on three seasons of HBO Def Poetry and the NAACP Image Awards on FOX. Her iconic work “Women of Juarez” is featured in the grade school publication Rethinking Schools, to teach youth about immigration and globalization.
DERRICK BROWN, former paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne, gondolier, magician and fired weatherman dedicated to bringing American poetry into rock and roll status. He is president of Write Bloody Publishing, the first indie press to be reviewed with favor by Forbes Magazine.

MINDY NETTIFEE is a poet, performer and activist living in Long Beach, California. She currently directs the nonprofit Write Now Poetry Society and her second full length collection Rise of The Trust Fall is out on Write Bloody Press.
