Poncho Sanchez Plays Free Concert in Marina del Rey Saturday

Grammy Award winner Billy Ocean plays the first Saturday concert of the free Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series in Burton Chace Park.

Grammy Award winner and influential percussionist Poncho Sanchez will play a free concert in Burton Chace Park Saturday as part of the ongoing Marina del Rey Summer Concert Series.

Sanchez's performance is the third of the "pop Saturday" performances that run every other Saturday during the concert series.

According to organizers, Sanchez has become one of the most influential percussionists in the genre of Afro-Cuban Jazz.

"His infectious style harmoniously collides fragments of Latin jazz, swing, bebop and salsa," organizers said.

Sachez's albums include Latin Soul, Psychedelic Blues, Chano y Dizzy and Live in Hollywood.

The concert, which begins at 7 p.m. in Burton Chace Park, is free and open to the public.

Burton Chase Park is located at 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey. Parking for concerts is available in county parking lots 4, 5 and 6 for a fee.

Both the Marina del Rey WaterBus and the Beach Shuttle will also run during concerts with stops at Burton Chase Park.
