Will DirecTV Show Dodger Games? Time Warner Says the Talks Are Over

But DirecTV officials say nothing could be further from the truth. ... So the parties can't even decide whether they're still in negotiations.

DirecTV and Time Warner Cable, which have not been able to agree on terms for delivering Dodger games to DirecTV subscribers, appeared unable today to even agree whether they are still in negotiation.

Time Warner Cable, which is handling distribution of the new Dodgers-owned channel SportsNet LA, said DirecTV has ended serious negotiations.

"DirecTV has advised us that they will not carry the Dodgers this year, and they have walked away from the negotiating table," Melinda Witmer, Time Warner Cable's executive vice president and chief video and content officer, said in comments reported by the Los Angeles Times.

But a DirecTV spokesman countered that "nothing could be further from the truth." The company said it was prepared to continue trying to clinch a deal.

DirecTV has said the price Time Warner Cable is seeking for the Dodgers is excessive and that it wants to sell SportsNet LA on an individual or a la carte basis. Time Warner Cable say its price is reasonable and that no regional sports networks are offered a la carte.

If they strike a deal it means my Direct TV bill will go up for something I don't really need or want. I have watched around three innings of baseball since the strike of 1994. Just a bunch of spoiled millionaires playing for spoiled billionaires.

I wouldn't be surprised if Time Warner was milking this to get more subscribers. I've had Time Warner, and I'd rather have no TV at all than deal with them again.

Dodgers , Giants, baseball. Who cares. Nothing but a bunch of drunken thug gang members in the stands. I certainly don't need to pay for it when I don't watch it.

I am a Dodger fan, but I don't want my basic DirecTV bill to go up for this channel. I realize that, but for the money paid by TWC, the Dodgers would not have the money to go out and purchase such a talented team. However, only those who want to pay for SportsNet should be charged. By the way, the quality of the picture on my TV significantly improved when I switched from TWC to DirecTV, so I won't go back for the Dodgers or anything else.
