Buying a Boat, Nuclear Safety and March Madness

The National Weather Service is predicting sunny skies with highs in the upper 60s today and Tuesday.

Today is March 14. It is the 73rd day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 7:02 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1 The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly sunny skies with a high near 68 and party cloudy skies tonight with an overnight low around 48 degrees. Forecasters predict more sunshine Tuesday with a high near 67 degrees.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers are back home and will host the Orlando Magic tonight at Staples Center. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.

3. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki continues his three-part series on buying a boat and you can read it right here. He also has a separate piece on the wisdom of building nuclear plants in California near earthquake faults that you can take a look at right here.
