Cloudy Afternoon, L.A. Ranks 3rd in Smog and Killer Shrimp in Marina del Rey

The National Weather Service says we should expect cloudy, foggy weather this afternoon, tonight and tomorrow morning with sunshine forecast for Thursday afternoon.

Today is Sept 21. It is the 264th day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 6:53 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for mostly cloudy skies with a high near 67 degrees with fog and clouds tonight and an overnight low around 60 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Thursday morning with gradual clearing and a sunny afternoon with a high temperature around 69 degrees.

2. A report released today by the environmental advocacy group Environment California ranks the Los Angeles-Long Beach metropolitan area as the third smoggiest area in the country in 2010. The Riverside-San Bernardino area topped the nationwide list of smoggiest cities. More details right here.

3. Killer Shrimp has made its triumphant return to Marina del Rey in a bigger location with waterfront views of the marina, an expanded menu and a spacious bar with specially designed cocktails by renowned Los Angeles mixologist Marcos Tello. Details right here.

4. The labor union representing 62,000 grocery workers in Southern California will vote on a new three-year labor agreement with the management of the Big 3 grocery chains, Vons/Paviliions, Ralphs and Albertsons. Workers had been threatening to strike over health care issues, but a compromise was reached Monday morning. Results of the union vote will be announced Saturday about 8 p.m. Details right here.
