Cloudy Afternoon, Occupy LAUSD and Butler's Townhall

The National Weather Service says it's going to be cloudy today and Thursday.

Today is Oct. 19. It is the 292nd day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 6:16 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for cloudy skies with a high near 66  degrees with patchy fog late tonight and an overnight low around 56 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Thursday morning and a mostly cloudy day with a high near 67 degrees.

2. The Occupy movement took a different turn yesterday with a crowd of several hundred people, including parents and teachers, marching on the downtown headquarters of the Los Angeles Unified School District. Check out this video report for more details.

3. Planned redevelopment projects in Marina del Rey caught the attention of the Pacific Palisades Community Council at their meeting this month. The council approved a resolution seeking a comprehensive environmental impact report that examines the impacts on the city of Los Angeles of marina redevelopment. Details are in this Pacific Palisades Patch story. The Del Rey Neighborhood Council also supported a similar resolution at their meeting last week.

4. Assemblymember Betsy Butler, D-Marina del Rey, will hold a Small Business Townhall on Oct. 28 in Marina del Rey. The noon event will feature Elizabeth Echols, a regional administrator for the Small Business Administration. Space is limited and there's a Friday deadline to RSVP. For more information or to RSVP, call (310) 615-3515 or visit www.asm.ca.gov/butler.

5. There will be relaxed parking restrictions on the Westside for the Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret and Simchat Torah, which begins tonight. Learn more about the two-day festival and the parking restrictions right here.
