Cloudy and Foggy, Lakers Cruising and Endorsement Meeting

The California Democratic Party is holding an endorsement meeting today to consider backing one of the five candidates running for the vacant seat in the 36th Congressional District.

Today is April 2. It is the 92nd day of the year. We are under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:16 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for partly sunny skies with a high of 69 degrees with the temperatute dropping to around 64 degrees by 5 p.m. Forecasters expect patcy fog after 11 p.m. tonight with an overnight low around 53 degrees. There's a 30 percent chance of showers Sunday before 11 a.m., otherwise it should gradually become mostly sunny.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers overcame a 17-point deficit to beat the Utah Jazz , 96-85, last night at Energy Solutions Arena. The Lakers are 17-1 since the All-Star break and are jockeying for the best record in the NBA with seven games still to play.

3. The California Democratic Party is holding an endorsement meeting this afternoon and could end up backing one of the five Democrats running for the vacant seat in the 36th Congressional District, which includes Marina del Rey, Playa del Rey and Del Rey.
