Coast Guard Will Offer Boating Safety Classes

This time of year, more and more people are out on boats in the marina, but the Coast Guard wants to help you stay safe this season.

Two classes on boating safety will be offered in June.

"Suddenly in Command" will be taught on June 29. The cost is $35 for individuals or $45 for couples. The four-hour course focuses on what to do on a boat in the case of an emergency.

A second class, "About Boating Safely," will be offered on four Tuesdays beginning on June 4. That class costs $45 for individuals and $55 for couples. During the class, students will learn about safety equipment, navigation systems and boating laws, among other topics.

The classes are taught by the Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 12-42 at the California Yacht Club at 4469 Admiralty Way.
