Cool Weather, Lakers Lose, Beach Permit Changes

The county's Department of Beaches and Harbors is changing its permitting process for surf lessons, kids camps and other recreational activities on county beaches.

Today is April 9. It is the 90th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 7:22 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 59 degrees with partly cloudy skies tonight and an overnight low around 49 degrees. It should be sunny Sunday with a high near 63 degrees.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers lost last night at Portland, 98-86, at the Rose Garden. The Lakers have now lost four straight games after going 17-1 after the All-Star break. The Lakers have three more games left before the playoffs start next weekend.

3. The county's Department of Beaches and Harbors is changing its permitting process for recreational activities at county beaches, such as surf lessons, children's camps and yoga classes. Some beach operators are worried that the county will squeeze them out in favor of large companies and municipalities that can pay more. You can read all about it right here.
