Del Rey Residents Association Stresses Importance of Emergency Preparedness

The Del Rey Residents Association wants to help empower local residents to be prepared in the case of an emergency.

The group is focusing on an effort make sure all of its residents are organized and educated about how to protect themselves.

The association feels so strongly about emergency preparedness it devoted its recent meeting in April to the subject. The goal is to organize the residents one block at a time, according to the organization’s president Elizabeth Pollock.

"Emergency preparedness and neighborhood watch go together, and where blocks or buildings are already organized, we are just building on what is already in place," Pollock said. "Often a burglary or other crime will prompt a given building or street to organize."

Pollock said now is an ideal time for the organization, which holds two, general meetings a year, to assist residents in keeping themselves well informed.

"Most households know what they should do to prepare for a disaster, but this effort is a call to action," Pollock said. "The four earthquakes we’ve had in the last two months have been good reminders, too."

The Del Rey Residents Association holds monthly board meetings and will hold its next general meeting in the fall. To find out more information, visit the organization online.
