City and county politicians joined public safety and transportation officials last week to warn the public to avoid the 405 Freeway between Interstate 10 and the Highway 101 over the weekend of July 16-17 during its 53-hour closure. A 10-mile stretch of the freeway will be closed to demolish half of the Mulholland Bridge in the Sepulveda Pass in order to build a new, wider bridge and a car pool lane on the freeway. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and City Councilman Bill Rosendahl joined high-tech manufacturer Equipois at a grand opening ceremony Wednesday at the company's new facility on the border of Playa Vista and Del Rey and tested its groundbreaking zero-gravity exoskeletal arms. Equipois is the latest high-tech firm to set up shop on the Westside's so-called "Silicon Beach." Learn more about the company and their move right here.

The county's Department of Beaches and Harbors will hire 13 employees to help with beach restroom cleaning and other beach maintenance after hearing complaints of closed and dirty restrooms. The department made the move after the county made no move to fund the new positions. More details right here.

The 14-member California Citizens Redistricting Commission released draft plans Friday for new congressional and state districts for the entire state. The plans show new proposed boundaries for California's 53 congressional districts, 40 state Senate Districts and 80 state Assembly Districts, as well as districts for the state Board of Equalization, which handles taxation issues.
