Editor's Picks: Congressional Candidates and Basketball Teams Compete for Titles

Voters will have no shortage of candidates to choose from in the upcoming election to replace Rep. Jane Harman (D-Venice) in the 36th Congressional District. Eighteen candidates have filed nominating papers to appear on the May 17 special primary election ballot. You can find out who is running right here.

The U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals struck a blow to gay rights activists when it ruled Wednesday that same-sex marriages would be put on hold in California while it deliberates whether Proposition 8 is unconstitutional. Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl spoke out against the ruling in this story in which he said he was "stunned, upset, disappointed and angry."

On the sports front, both the boys and girls basketball teams at St. Bernard High School in Playa del Rey traveled to Sacramento to compete for the state title. Congratulations to both squads for making it all the way to the championship game and for having such successful seasons!
