Here are the editor's picks of the top stories from the past week.

A man was shot in the head and killed Friday morning in a stolen vehicle in Del Rey. The shooting occurred about 7 a.m. in the 5500 block of Margaret Avenue.  We had a story on it right here. UPDATE: An arrest has been made. Story right here.

The special election to fill the vacant seat in the state Senate's 28th District will be held Feb. 15. Four of the eight candidates gathered for a debate at Long Beach’s Century Villages at Cabrillo, a transitional housing community for homeless people and families.. A major redevelopment plan for Marina del Rey was unanimously endorsed last week by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. We had a story on it right here. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki wrote a preview before the meeting and a reaction piece after it.
