Today is Election Day for voters in the 36th Congressional District. Polls close at 8 p.m.

Today is May 17. It is the 137th day of the year. We are under a full moon. Sunset will occur about 7:51 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for the late afternoon calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and mostly cloudy skies with a high near 63 degrees. Forecasters expect showers tonight mainly after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 53 degrees. There's also an elevated rip current risk for beachgoers.

There's a 20 percent chance of showers before 11 a.m. Wednesday and it should be partly sunny with a high near 61 degrees.

3. Los Angeles County Supervisor Don Knabe, whose Fourth District includes Marina del Rey, announced today that the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved $683,000 in funding for the continuation of paratransit shuttle service for eligible residents for fiscal year 2011-2012. The program will include the following paratransit shuttle services: La Rambla, Marina del Rey, Rancho Los Amigos, Teen Mother and the Whittier Islands.

“I am pleased to be able to secure the funds for this service,” Knabe said in a statement. “Many of our transit dependent residents utilize public transportation and these shuttle services are a vital component of their livelihood.”
