Deal Arranged for Free Wi-Fi at LAX

Wi-Fi will be available free for up to 45 minutes in a 24-hour time span.

Airport passengers will now be able to surf the web free of charge at Los Angeles International Airport for up to 45 minutes, officials announced on Tuesday.

Advance Wireless Group will provide and maintain the service at LAX and guarantee the airport approximately $663,000 in revenue over a two-year time period.

“I am very pleased that free Wi-Fi service is now available to residents and visitors to Los Angeles while they are at LAX,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in a statement.  “This furthers our L.A. Wi-Fi Initiative to provide free or low-cost internet services throughout the city and to connect all of Los Angeles to the global community and global economy.”

The new free wireless system is expected to be operational in less than two weeks as the company upgrades its infrastructure across LAX’s nine terminals – which encompass over 4 million square feet.

“A major focus of our customer service improvements is to create a positive experience for travelers at LAX,” said Los Angeles World Airports Executive Director Gina Marie Lindsey in a statement.  “Given passenger expectations and trends at major airports and other public facilities, providing free Wi-Fi service at LAX allows us to meet the demands of today’s travelers and continue our commitment to excellent customer service.”
