Funeral Services for Jean and Scott Adam Set for Saturday

Services for the couple who were members of the Del Rey Yacht Club will be held Saturday in Santa Monica.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica for Jean and Scott Adam, the couple killed last week by Somali pirates.

The services will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the church, where the couple were active parishioners.

"We will remember they lived their lives fully and told of their faith by example," the family of Jean and Scott Adam said in a statement.

Media will not be allowed on the property, according to a high-level administrator at the church.

Jean and Scott Adam, who were members of the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, were on an around-the-world sailing adventure that started in 2004 and also distributed Bibles while out on their multi-year voyage. Their yacht, S/V Quest, was hijacked Feb. 18 by Somali pirates about 270 miles off the coast of Oman in the Indian Ocean. Four U.S. Navy warships shadowed the yacht while the pirates made their way back to Somalia and negotiations were underway to release the Adams and another couple from Seattle that were aboard their yacht.

The negotiations went awry and all four of the hostages were shot and killed last week and 15 pirates were detained. Two of the pirates were killed by U.S. special forces members who boarded the yacht after hearing gunfire and two pirates who were already dead were found on the yacht.

As previously reported, the family of Jean and Scott Adam has asked for donations be made to the Music Program, in lieu of flowers. The address is 725 California Ave., Santa Monica, CA, 90403.
