Increasing Clouds, Young Shark Dies and Marina del Rey Development Hearing

The California Coastal Commission is considering changing zoning rules in Marina del Rey to make room for significant new developments.

Today is Nov. 3. It is the 307th day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 6:01 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for increasing clouds with a high near 71 degrees with a 30 percent chance of showers late tonight and an overnight low around 55 degrees. Forecasters say showers are likely Friday morning and it should be cloudy with a high near 63 degrees.

2. A young great white shark that was collected off the breakwater in Marina del Rey and displayed to the public for 55 days at the Monterey Bay Aquarium has died. A staff veterinarian called the shark's death "both distressing and puzzling." Details right here.

3. The only thing that could slow down some fine late season fishing is the wind. More from our Patch fishing report right here.

4. The green energy efficiency group RePower LA is holding a meeting tonight if you're interested in energy alternatives. Details right here.

5. The California Coastal Commission is meeting in Oceanside today to consider a Local Coastal Plan Amendment for Marina del Rey that would change zoning rules to make way for major redevelopments. Stay tuned for details.
