Independence Day Fireworks Return to Marina del Rey

After last year's cancellation, the waterfront celebration returns with a bang.

Screeching rockets will once again light up the night sky in Marina del Rey on July 4 after a one-year hiatus in 2011 due to budget constraints.

Spectators can view the 20-minute display, which begins at 9 p.m., from anywhere in the marina, but the best viewing spots will be at Burton W. Chace Park and Fisherman’s Village, according to the Department of Beaches and Harbors.

Fireworks will be launched from a barge in the main channel near the south jetty, and although boaters can cruise the marina to enjoy the show, they will not be allowed to anchor anywhere and must keep a 420-foot distance from the barge.

The Marina del Rey WaterBus will provide shuttle service to seven locations in the harbor from 11 a.m. to midnight.

The Department of Beaches and Harbors expects about 25,000 attendants, and is still raising funds to cover the $115,000 cost for fireworks and other services.
