Marina del Rey resident Leslie Billinger will carry the Olympic torch on July 9 at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the Los Angeles Sentinel reported.
She is originally from Chicago, Ill., but moved to Long Beach with her parents in high school and now lives in Marina del Rey. Billinger serves on the board of the Venice Boys and Girls Club, and has helped develop basketball tournaments for local kids.
Catherine Castaneda, one of Billinger’s coworkers, wrote an essay on her behalf for the opportunity to be a torchbearer, and about two months ago, Bellinger found out she was selected, according to the L.A. Sentinel.
