Marina to Receive Better Oil Spill Response Equipment
The Board of Supervisors will vote on accepting funds for the new equipment on July 3.
The Beaches and Harbors Department is set to establish an oil spill response program – a preemptive measure that hopes to alleviate clean up time in Marina del Rey with better equipment.
As a result of several oil spills in the past, , the California Department of Fish and Game agreed to fund the Marina Oil Spill Response Equipment Program, and the county Board of Supervisors will vote on whether to accept the $28,000 grant on July 3.
The county applied for the state monies in November 2011 that it will use to pay for a trailer stocked with an oil boom, a tool that absorbs oil off the water surface, and staff training on how to deploy the equipment.

The Board of Supervisors must accept the funds before they can be disbursed to the Beaches and Harbors Department. It will meet on July 3 at 9:30 a.m. in board hearing room 381B, 500 West Temple St. Los Angeles.
