Meeting Planned to Discuss the Oxford Basin Enhancement Project

A public information meeting on the Oxford Retention Basin Multiuse Enhancement Project is scheduled to take place next week.

The event will provide an update on the project as well as allow local residents to ask questions about it, according to project manager Josh Svensson of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

What began as a flood control project has turned into something of more aesthetic value, thanks to public input in recent years, according to Svensson.

"The community came back to us and said, 'Hey, we really want some of these additional features,' " Svensson said. "We’d like to have more recreational opportunities, so we found it’s a perfect opportunity to provide this true multi-benefit."

As a result, there will be "significant aesthetic updates" at the site consisting of an improved habitat for birds and other local animals as well as recreational improvements and observational areas for people to relax and bird watch, Svensson said. They will also be able to enjoy "an enhanced decomposed granite walking path" along Admiralty Way, he said.

"I think it will be a much better destination and blend better with the other walking paths in the community," Svensson said.

Construction at the basin, which is located at 4360 Admiralty Way, is expected to begin next year.

"You can tell we’re very excited about this project," said Kerjon Lee, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Department of Public Works.

The public meeting will take place from 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29, in the community room at Burton Chace Park.

Public comments can also be submitted from now through June 18. More information about the project and how to submit comments is available online.
