More than 150 People Attend the Garifuna Film Festival

The second annual Garifuna International Film Festival, or GIFF, was a success, according to its organizers.

More than 150 people attended the two-day festival which took place at the the Beyond Baroque Literary Art Center at 681 Venice Blvd. in Venice and at Mariner's Village at 4600 Via Marina in Marina del Rey. The festival aims to raise awareness about people of Garifuna descent whose ancestors were South American Indians and Africans.

The weekend festival consisted of film screenings, including the movie, "Garifuna in Peril," and musical performances as well as question and answer sessions with filmmakers.

Last weekend's event was capped off with a visit from the former president of the National Garifuna Council Roy Cayetano, according to Cheryl L. Noralez who heads the Garifuna American Heritage Foundation United, Incorporated.
