Parade Winners, Patch on CBS and More

The winners at the 48th annual Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade are announced, Patch is covered by CBS News and a look at redevelopment plans by our boating columnist.

Today is Dec. 13. It is the 347th day of the year. We are under a first quarter moon. Sunset will occur at 4:47 p.m. Here are five things you need to know:

1. Boating columnist Paul M.J. Suchecki has a new opinion piece out taking a look at the county's redevelopment plans for Marina del Rey from the perspective of boaters. Read all about it here.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champions Los Angeles Lakers meet President Barack Obama today at the White House to receive congratulations on their 16th championship.

4. Ellis Island II owned by Peter Ellis was the Best Overall winner of the 48th annual Marina del Rey Boat Parade. It took 8,000 lightbulbs alone to illuminate the King of Rock and it was definitely a fan favorite.

Other winners included: Best Sail: Kallista – Marina Venice Yacht Club (MVYC); Best Power: Blue Belle - Walt Schwarz; Best Charter: Silver Eagle - Paradise Bound Yacht Charters; Best Yacht Club: Owen Churchill - California Yacht Club; Best Organization: Lightning - Women's Sailing Association and Best Individual: The Mer Sea - Monte and Daniel Cook. 5. The National Weather Service predicts a sunny afternoon with temperatures falling to about 66 degrees by 5 p.m. Increasing clouds are predicted for tonight with a low around 50 and patchy dense fog overnight.
