Partly Cloudy Afternoon, Butler's Endorsement and Kayak Cleanup Totals

The National Weather Service predicts partly cloudy skies today and Wednesday afternoon.

Today is Sept. 20. It is the 263rd day of the year. We are under a third quarter moon. Sunset will occur about 6:55 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 66 degrees with patch, dense fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 62 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog Wednesday morning and a mostly cloudy afternoon with a high near 67 degrees.

2. Assemblywoman Betsy Butler, D-Marina del Rey, has gained another endorsement for her bid to run for the new 50th Assembly District. The National Women's Political Caucus of California has endorsed Butler, who previously served as president of the group's Westside chapter. Butler said last week that she'll be moving from her longtime Marina del Rey home to run in the 50th Assembly District, which includes Malibu and Santa Monica. Details right here.

3. Marina del Rey resident Chris Jolly finished second in the paratriathlete division of the Nautica Malibu Triathlon.  Jolly suffered an accident in 1994 that left him a below-the-knee amputee. He told Patch in an email that he trains daily on the Marvin Braude Bike Path that runs through Marina del Rey. Check out this report on the triathlon and Jolly on KABC-7 online.

4. A bar stool, a boat propeller, a lifejacket, a baby diaper and 18 small octopuses were among the items pulled from the marina kayak cleanup Saturday in Marina del Rey. The county's Department of Beaches and Harbors says in a Facebook posting that 228 pounds of trash and 40 pounds of recyclables were plucked by volunteers as part of Coastal Cleanup Day. The kayak cleanup was organized by the Santa Monica Bay Restoration Foundation. Details right here.

5. Patch is looking for bloggers. We recently rolled out a new blogging platform and are looking for local bloggers to write about whatever they want, whenever they want. If you're interested or want to learn more, send me an email: Paul.Chavez@patch.com.
