Partly Sunny, Lakers Face Knicks and Sunset Photos

Today is Jan. 9. It is the ninth day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur at 5:05 p.m. Here are five things to know about:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 57 degrees. Forecasters expect patchy fog after 10 p.m., otherwise it should be mostly cloudy with a low around 45. Patchy fog tomorrow morning before 10 a.m., otherwise cloudy mid-morning with gradual afternoon clearing and a high near 62.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers host the New York Knicks tonight at the Staples Center. Tipoff is at 6:30 p.m.

3. Police are still seeking the public's help in finding the hit-and-run driver who struck and killed Brigitte Burdine, 48, of Marina del Rey, while she was walking early Dec. 29 on Culver Boulevard in Playa del Rey. Anyone with information, including auto body shop owners or workers, should call police detectives at 213-473-0244 from 7 p.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and 213-473-0222 after hours.
