Partly Sunny, Somali Pirates and Marina Redevelopment

We ARE Marina del Rey is holding a forum today at 1 p.m. at the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library to discuss development plans for the marina.

Today is Feb. 19. It is the 50th day of the year. We are under a waning gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 5:42 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for partly sunny skies with a high near 58 degrees with a chance of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Forecasters says showers are likely tonight before 10 p.m. and then there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 10 p.m. The overnight low should be around 44 degrees.

2. The Los Angeles Times is reporting that United States military officials are considering options after reports that pirates off the coast of Somalia hijacked a yacht belonging to an Orange County couple who were distributing Bibles on a worldwide voyage. Jean and Scott Adam have raced with the Del Rey Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, the Times reported, and the club has been their mail drop during their global odyssey. You can read the Times story about the Orange County couple right here.

3. We ARE Marina del Rey will be holding a forum at 1 p.m. today at the Lloyd Taber-Marina del Rey Library to outline potential Marina del Rey developments that are part of the Local Coastal Program Amendment that will be considered by the California Coastal Commission in June.

4. Did you know you can follow Marina del Rey Patch, which also covers Del Rey and Playa del Rey, on Facebook and Twitter?

5. We're creating a new Moms Council that we hope will range from the working mom to the stay-at-home mom to the stay-at-home dad to the PTA parents to the soccer moms. The Moms Council will use its motherly expertise to facilitate discussions about parenting and help guide parenting coverage for the site.
