Patch and HuffPost, Sunny Skies, Harman Resigns

Patch's parent company, AOL, is buying the Huffington Post for $315 million.

Today is Feb. 7. It is the 38th day of the year. We are under a waxing crescent moon. Sunset will occur about 5:31 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. Patch's parent company, AOL, has bought the Huffington Post for $315 million. The deal was signed last night during the halftime of the Super Bowl, AOL CEO Tim Armstrong said today during a conference call with Patch staffers.

Arianna Huffington will become the president and editor-in-chief of the newly formed The Huffington Post Media Group, which will include all Huffington Post and AOL content, including Patch, Engadget, TechCrunch, Moviefone, MapQuest, Black Voices, PopEater, AOL Music, AOL Latino, AutoBlog, StyleList, and more.

2. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for sunny skies with a high near 69 degrees. Forecasters said there should be patchy fog after 10 p.m. with a low around 50 degrees.

3. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers (35-16) will face the Memphis Grizzlies (27-25) tonight on the road at the FedExForum. The Lakers have lost their last two games to the Grizzlies. Tip-off is at 5 p.m.

4. Rep. Jane Harman (D-Venice) has announced that she is leaving office to lead the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars, a Washington, D.C.-based think tank. Harman's congressional district includes Marina del Rey. Check back here in a bit for a story.
