Public Event Planned to Discuss the Future of Marina del Rey

The future of Marina del Rey will be the subject of a walking tour and community workshop to be held next week.

The County of Los Angeles Department of Regional Planning is sponsoring the event to find out what local residents want to see changed or improved in Marina del Rey.

"The goal of the break out groups will be to get ideas from the individuals about issues and opportunities they see for making changes in Marina del Rey, positive changes that will help reinvigorate the community and make it a more vibrant place to be," said Gina Natoli, a county supervising regional planner.

An initial meeting was held last month to ascertain the goals locals have for the community. The primary concerns mentioned were the high volume of traffic in the area and transportation as well as other issues, according to Natoli.

"People let us know what their concerns were, one of them being retaining the recreational boating aspect of the Marina," Natoli said.

Those and other topics will also be discussed at next week’s workshops which are open to the public, according to Natoli. The event will begin with a walking tour along Admiralty Way, followed by a visit to Fisherman’s Village.

Discussion groups will then take place at the Marina del Rey Hotel. The walking tours are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, June 1, at Parking Lot Five at the intersection of Admiralty Way and Bali Way.
