Record Low Temperature Set in Los Angeles

Temperatures early Monday morning were just above freezing.

The lowest temperature in 22 years was recorded in downtown Los Angeles Monday, according to the National Weather Service.

The low of 34 degrees broke the previous record for the date of 36 degrees set in 2007. Monday’s was the lowest temperature recorded since a low of 34 degrees on Dec. 23, 1990. The previous day, Dec. 22, 1990, the temperature had dropped to 33.

Temperatures at Santa Monica Airport fell to 40 degrees at 6:51 a.m. on Monday. At Los Angeles International Airport, temperatures dropped to 42 degrees.

The last time the temperature dropped to freezing in downtown Los Angeles was Jan. 29, 1979, when the low was 32 degrees. 

The lowest temperature ever recorded in downtown Los Angeles was 28 degrees on three separate occasions – Feb. 3, 1883, Jan. 7, 1913 and Jan. 4, 1949.
