Redevelopment Approved, Moms Wanted and Sunny Skies

Patch is focusing on parenting starting next week and we're starting a new Mom's Council to help with advice and direction.

Today is Feb. 2. It is the 33rd day of the year. We will be under a waning crescent moon. Sunset will occur at 5:26 p.m. Here are five things to know about:

1. The National Weather Service forecast calls for a sunny afternoon with a high near 62 degrees with clear skies tonight and a low around 48 degrees. It should be sunny Thursday with a high near 61 degrees and clear overnight with a low around 47 degrees. Forecasters said gusty winds will taper off Thursday.

2. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champions beat the Houston Rockets 114-106 in overtime Tuesday night at the Staples Center.

3. In case you missd, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a major redevelopment plan for Marina del Rey. The plan now goes to the California Coastal Commission, which has final authority over coastal development. You can read about it right here.

4. We're also creating a new Moms Council that we hope will range from the working mom to the stay-at-home mom to the stay-at-home dad to the PTA parents to the soccer moms. The Moms Council will use its motherly expertise to facilitate discussions about parenting and help guide parenting coverage for the site. If you're interested, please send me an e-mail at: paul.chavez@patch.com.

5. Did you know you can follow Marina del Rey Patch, which also covers Del Rey and Playa del Rey, on Facebook and Twitter?
