Storm Knocks Out Power

The storm that ushered in the beginning of spring with heavy rain and strong winds brought down power lines throughout the area and left about 1,300 people in Del Rey without power.

The storm that blew into the area with heavy rain and gusty winds Sunday knocked down power lines throughout the region and left thousands without power, including 1,300 homes in Del Rey.

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power reported late Sunday that 41,000 of its 1.4 million electricity customers lost power due to the storm. The hardest hit communites have been listed as:

  • San Pedro: 14,600
  • Hyde Park: 3,000
  • Studio City: 1,900
  • Encino: 1,700
  • Hollywood: 1,600
  • Van Nuys: 1,600
  • Northridge: 1,500
  • Cheviot Hills: 1,300
  • Del Rey: 1,300
  • Panorama City: 1,300
  • Mid Wilshire: 1,100
  • Venice: 1,100

Southern California Edison officials said about 56,000 customers in their 50,000 square-mile service area were without power due to the storm. Some of their hardest hit areas have been listed as:
