Stormy Weather, Vū Drink Specials and Follow Us

Let's call it Marina del Rain today. The National Weather Service is forecasting rain and cold temperatures with low snow levels.

Today is Feb. 25. It is the 56th day of the year. We are under a third quarter moon. Sunset will occur about 5:48 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for today calls for rain and a high near 55 degrees with even heavier rain tonight and an overnight low around 46 degrees. A very cold storm system from Canada will bring some of the lowest snow levels in recent history and the weather service warned drivers, campers and hikers to be prepared for winter storm conditions.

2. Vū Restaurant at the Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina del Rey wants you to enjoy the rain today with their "When it rains, we pour" special. While it's raining, they'll have a selection of wines available for $4 and either Sam Adams or Stella beer on tap for $2. They'll also have two warm cocktails for $4, a blood orange rum toddy and Coco MdR, which has coffee, Frangelico, Tres Leches coffee liquer and Hershey's chocolate syrup.

3. Playa del Rey resident Phil Jackson and the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers host the Los Angeles Clippers tonight at Staples Center. The Lakers have won two straight since the All-Star break and the Clippers are 2-8 on their 11-game road trip that ends tonight.

4. The family of Jean and Scott Adam, the Del Rey Yacht Club members who were killed by Somali pirates, has requested that donations made in memory of the couple be directed to the St. Monica Catholic Church's music program. Details on that are right here.

5. Did you know you can follow Marina del Rey Patch, which also covers Del Rey and Playa del Rey, on Facebook and Twitter? Also, I've been trying to start a new Moms Council that we hope will range from the working mom to the stay-at-home mom to the stay-at-home dad to the PTA parents to the soccer moms. The Moms Council will use its motherly expertise to facilitate discussions about parenting and help guide parenting coverage for the site.
