Summer Reading Club will Soon Kick Off at the Playa Vista Library

The Playa Vista branch of the Los Angeles Public Library will be offering a Summer Reading Club this summer.

The kickoff registration party is scheduled for June 8. While children are signing up, they will also be entertained that day by a card magician, a guitarist and a henna tattoo artist.

There will be three different groups this summer for various age groups, according to Children’s Librarian Field Weber. The toddler program will be centered around the California library system’s summer reading club theme of "Reading is so delicious."

"The toddler program is all about growing vegetables," Weber said. "So I have made little virtual gardens for them to play with after we have our story time."

Cartoonist Dave Boatman will be on hand this summer to teach the children how to draw cartoon characters as well as a professional magician and a representative from the “Mad Science Group” will be on hand to do science experiments on the children, among other activities, according to Weber.

The club is designed for toddlers through teenagers. When the kids register, they will receive a library bag, reading log and a schedule of programs, according to Weber. Registration will take place from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 8.
