Sunny Afternoon, Assembly Race Kickoff and Channel Islands

The National Weather Service expects sunny skies this afternoon with fog Tuesday morning followed by sunshine.

Today is June 13. It is the 164th day of the year. We are under a waxing gibbous moon. Sunset will occur about 8:07 p.m. Here are five things to know:

1. The National Weather Service forecast for this afternoon calls for sunny skies with a high near 67 degrees with patchy fog after 11 p.m. and an overnight low around 58 degrees. Forecasters expect more of the June gloom pattern Tuesday with patchy fog in the morning before gradually clearing to sunny with a high near 68 degrees.

2. Liberal activist Torie Osborn has received the endorsement of outgoing Assemblywoman Julia Brownley in the 2012 race for the state Assembly's 41st District, which would include Marina del Rey under newly proposed redistricting lines. Osborn also has been endorsed by Sheila Kuehl, who represented the district from 1994 to 2000, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and Los Angeles City Councilman Bill Rosendahl. More details on Osborn's campaign kickoff event and details on the newly proposed redistricting here.
